We should have been more specific.  This "subtype" has nothing to do with inheritance or any implementation details.  It is just a "type" of data packet as specified in MetaInfo part of the Data packet itself, nothing more.  By default (type = 0) is generic "blob", other types may determine the specific common encoding of the content part and the link spec is just defining a couple of new types/content part encodings.
