You can look into using Mini-NDN, mininet based emulator for NDN, to emulate a network on a single machine instead of using VirtualBoxes:

We setup NLSR security using ndnsec tools in Mini-NDN.

Alex may know better; I do not know such tutorial exists...
one thing relevant could be the tutorial we gave at ICN 2016 (you can find the slides and recording from NDN tutorial page), where Alex demonstrated how to develop an app from scratch, including the security part (as I vaguely recall)
