I have already installed NFD using the NDN PPA Repository.

You may have a mixed installation from both PPA and source code. PPA NFD
should read configuration from /etc/ndn/nfd.conf, not
/usr/local/etc/ndn/nfd.conf.
Please wipe the machine and reinstall only one version.
