[ndnSIM] New to ndnSIM.

Hello all,
I am new to ndnSIM. I am working on developing a new forwarding strategy for Vehicular Ad hoc Networks (VANET). What you advise me to do as I still at the beginning. Also, what are the most compatible platform to use I mean the versions of OS (linux), ndnSIM, NS3?. How is ndnSIM is flexible so I can customize the forwarding strategy, and extracting the output results?
Any kind of help in that will be appreciated.
