[ndnSIM] New field to the Interest Packet

Hi guys,
I need your help and advice with modifying the Interest packet.
I am trying to use Interest to sent periodic update about the access pattern of a node to a central node.Can you please suggest how best to go about this.
I have tried adding a new field to the packet as an std::map variable but I am not sure about how to modify the encode and decode functions in the Interest.cpp.
