Subject: [Ndn-interest] Answer to Hackathon Questions

Hi all,

We’ve received some questions regarding the Hackathon, please find the answers below.

When will you announce team?
Saurab will update the website later today with all the project titles, and the details to the submission forms on the Hackathon website today (https://7th-ndn-hackathon.named-data.net/). Right now it just contains a brief description, we will update the details later. Right now we have around 20 topics and some are still updating.

How will the team formation take place?
We will send out a poll later today containing the topics and people can fill their name under the one they are interested in. This is done in a first come first serve basis.

What about the proposal pitching?
Teams will be formed in advance, since NIST can start working from 9am their time, that’s 6am pst so we should have all the teams formed by Friday night Oct.19.

What platform you will use for the starting and ending session? And how long will these sessions last?
We will use bluejeans, Prof Wang has created a link please see below, we’ll post it on the hackathon website as well. We will have one laptop from each site constantly connected with the camera and audio on, mic muted unless we wanna talk to the other sites, we can also show what’s going on in the other sites as well through the camera. One representative from each site will take care of the communication, I will be responsible for UCLA, Saurab for Memphis, Teng for Arizona, Klaus for NIST. Other remote participants can also join the link to ask questions and keep track of what’s going on.

We will give the starting session (around 15min) and project presentation (around 40minutes to 1h) on bluejeans as well.

Is there any specific collaborative platform participants or teams may use – that organizer suggests?
We will have a slack channel for each project. People can choose to use other real-time chatting apps (Skype etc) depending on their need.

Can participant submit final demo and project via youtube video?
Yes, if some people have time conflict, they can have someone present their video for them on bluejeans or just send it to the organizers. We will also use blue jeans for the final presentation. (The speaker can present using the one laptop on each site, and others from the same site can mute).
